中文Document Types

Chinese Document Translation: Hukou, Notarial Certificates And Judgments

Chinese paperwork comes as booklets, cards and long notarial sets. The cards below cover most orders. Every Chinese certificate translation keeps serial numbers, red seals and booklet page order exactly as issued.

  • 01

    出生医学证明

    Medical Certificate Of Birth

The birth record issued by the hospital in China. It names the child, both parents and the place of birth, and carries a serial number we copy exactly.

  • 02

    出生登記冊內記項的核證副本 (出世紙)

    Hong Kong Birth Certificate

Printed in English and Chinese, yet some entries appear only in Chinese. Our Hong Kong birth certificate translation for HMPO covers those parts for passports, provisional licences or banks.

  • 03

    户口簿

    Household Register Booklet

Lists everyone registered at one address, page by page. Usually only the front pages and the pages for people in your application need translating, which keeps costs down.

  • 04

    公证书

    Notarial Certificate

Chinese notary offices issue these to confirm births, marriages, degrees or a clean record. We translate the notary's statement, the reference number and every seal.

  • 05

    结婚证

    Red Marriage Booklet

A small red booklet, with one copy for each spouse. We translate every page, including the photo page details and the registration office seal.

  • 06

    民事判决书

    Civil Judgment

Divorce rulings can run to many pages of facts and orders. Our divorce certificate and judgment translation keeps the court name, case number and orders easy to follow.

  • 07

    机动车驾驶证

    Mainland Licence And Supplementary Page

Shows the permitted vehicle class, first issue date and validity period. We translate the card and its supplementary page, laid out to match the original.

  • 08

    银行对账单

    Statement From A Chinese Bank

Used for deposits, visas and tax checks. Every date, amount, currency and account holder name stays exactly as printed, line by line.

中文Official Terms

Official Chinese Translation Terms From Booklets And Notary Offices

A short list of formal terms covers most Chinese civil documents. Here is the English we use for each. Fixing these choices early keeps any professional Chinese translation consistent across booklets, certificates and judgments.

中文 termIn EnglishGood to know
出生医学证明Medical certificate of birthThe hospital-issued birth record used across mainland China.
户口簿Household register bookletRecords everyone registered at one household address.
居民身份证Resident identity cardThe mainland ID card, with an 18-digit number.
公证书Notarial certificateIssued by a notary office to confirm a fact or document.
结婚证Marriage certificateRed booklet issued to each spouse at registration.
民事判决书Civil judgmentCourt decision used in divorce, custody and money disputes.
公章Official sealRed round seal showing which office issued the page.

中文Scripts And Calendars

Chinese Translator UK For Both Scripts And The Minguo Calendar

Chinese comes in two scripts and several naming systems, and calendars differ too. Where a document was issued changes how we render it. We handle Simplified and Traditional Chinese translation alike.

  • 01

    Simplified Script From China

Records from China use Simplified characters and Pinyin spellings. Many are notarial certificates from a local notary office, and we translate the notary's own wording in full.

  • 02

Traditional Script From Hong Kong And Macau

These records often print English beside the Chinese. We translate the Chinese parts and check that the printed English agrees, noting any difference. Names usually follow Cantonese romanisation, such as Wong or Chan.

  • 03

    Taiwan's Minguo Calendar

Taiwanese documents count years from 1912, so 民國113年 is 2024. We give both years side by side, a habit our professional document translators keep for every calendar conversion.

  • 04

    Singapore And Malaysia

Most official records there are in English or Malay. Chinese appears on some school, clan and family documents, usually in Simplified script, and we translate those like any other certified document.

中文Into Chinese

Certified Translation Into Chinese For Offices In China

Fewer orders go from English into Chinese, and the right route depends on where the papers will be read. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan each follow different rules, stamps and scripts.

  • EN 中文

    Mainland China: Apostille First

China joined the Apostille Convention in November 2023, so many UK documents now take an FCDO apostille instead of embassy legalisation. Some mainland offices still want a local translation, so ask them first.

  • EN 中文

    Hong Kong: Traditional Script

Hong Kong accepts apostilles and writes in Traditional characters. Many offices there also read English, so check whether a Chinese version is really needed before paying for one.

  • EN 中文

    Taiwan: Separate Authentication

Taiwan is not part of the Apostille Convention, so UK papers are usually authenticated through the Taipei Representative Office. We translate into Traditional script and can show Minguo years if asked.

中文Buyer Questions

Chinese Certified Translation Doubts On Seals, Names And Hukou Pages

Buyers ordering Chinese translation tend to ask about notary pages, name order, hukou pages and tight deadlines. Plain answers to each sit below. Need a different answer? Message the team on WhatsApp.

My Chinese Notarial Certificate Already Has An English Page. Do I Still Need A Certified Translation?
In many cases, yes. The notary's English page belongs to the Chinese notarial set and is not a UK certified translation, so many UK offices want our translator's signed declaration instead. Check your office's guidance first; if it accepts the notary's version, you save the cost.
Which Order And Spelling Will You Use For My Chinese Name?
We follow your passport exactly, including whether the family name comes first. If the document shows an older spelling, we still use the passport version and can add a note linking the two.
Do All Pages Of My Hukou Booklet Need Translating?
Rarely all of them. Many offices need only the cover, the household head's page and the pages of people in your application. Check your guidance, tell us which pages, and we price only those.
Can You Translate My Chinese Driving Licence Into Italian Instead Of English?
Yes. We translate Chinese licences into Italian and other languages for car hire. China does not issue International Driving Permits, and some countries want a translation from a specific body, so check with the rental company first.
My Gift Letter Is In English But The Bank Statements Are In Chinese. What Do I Pay For?
Only the Chinese pages. An English gift letter needs no translation, so we quote for the statements alone. Your solicitor can then file our translations alongside the letter.
My ILR Upload Is Due Tomorrow. Can You Translate Chinese Documents The Same Day?
A same-day option is available for short documents, confirmed before you pay. Put the deadline in your upload message, and we confirm it before you pay. A long court judgment may need more time, and we say so upfront.
Are The Red Seals On My Chinese Documents Translated Or Just Mentioned?
Translated. We render the words inside each seal in brackets, for example [Seal: Notary Office of Haidian District], so the reader knows who stamped the page. A seal too faint to read is noted as such.
