Where It Is Needed

Estate Document Translation For Grants, Banks And Property Transfers

An estate rarely needs just one office to agree. Inheritance translation is usually asked for at several points, from applying for the grant to closing accounts and passing a house to the heirs.

  • Applying For The Grant

The grant application is often the first point where English versions are needed, for the will and the death certificate. Scottish estates go through confirmation, not probate, and we prepare papers for that too.

  • Closing The Deceased's Accounts

UK banks need proof of death and proof of who may act before releasing money. Statements from accounts abroad can be added through our bank statement translation for estate accounts.

  • Passing On A Home

Changing who owns a property, here or abroad, means deeds and heirship papers in the right language. We keep addresses, plot numbers and owner names exactly as recorded.

  • When A Will Is Questioned

If relatives disagree about a will, the court and both sides need the same trusted English text. Letters, emails and older wills often join the file at that stage.

    legal translation for contested estates
  • Sending A UK Grant Abroad

A British grant may need to reach a bank or notary in another country. We translate it into their language, and a legalised translation of a UK grant of probate adds the apostille.

  • Inheritance Tax Forms

HMRC wants to know what the deceased owned abroad and what it was worth. Foreign valuations, bank balances and property records are translated so the executor can complete the inheritance tax forms accurately.

  • Pension And Life Insurance Claims

Providers pay out only once they see proof of death and of who should receive the money. A foreign death certificate, marriage record or policy letter in English keeps that claim moving.

  • Family Land In Pakistan Or India

Inherited farmland often comes with a fard or jamabandi record and a mutation entry in Urdu or Punjabi. We translate owner names, shares and khasra numbers exactly, for solicitors here or relatives back home.

What Arrives

Certified Probate Document Translation Set Out For Registry Staff

Registry staff and solicitors compare the English copy against the original, one line at a time. Translation of inheritance papers is set out to mirror the source, with every seal, date and signature accounted for.

  1. 01Word-For-Word Will TextEvery clause, crossing-out and later addition is translated in order. Nothing is smoothed over, because a single word in a will can change who inherits.
  2. 02Names Kept ConsistentThe deceased and every heir appear with the same spelling on every page. Where passports or old records differ, a translator's note explains the variant.
  3. 03A Signed CertificateA signed certificate turns each set into a UK-ready translated document for use in the UK. It is dated and stamped, and it gives a case reference the Registry can quote to us.
  4. 04Seals And Notary Marks ShownNotary seals, court stamps and registry marks are described in square brackets where they sit, so the reader knows what the original carries.
  5. 05Paper Copies On RequestA certified PDF is emailed to you first. Signed paper copies can follow by post for executors, solicitors or offices that still prefer them.

Choosing A Level

Succession Document Translation Levels Compared

In England and Wales, a foreign will usually needs a verified translation, by notary or sworn statement. Death certificates and bank papers take certified copies. A notarised translation of a foreign will suits the will.

How It Works

Will Translation Step By Step, At Your Pace

Nobody should feel rushed while grieving, so send papers as they turn up. Translating a foreign will starts after you agree the price, and you can ask questions at any time.

  1. 1

    Share What You Have

Photograph or scan each page, even if some papers are still on their way from abroad. We can start with the death certificate.

  2. 2

    Hear Back Within The Hour

One price and an expected delivery date come back to you. Asking costs nothing, and there is no pressure to go ahead.

  3. 3

    Translate And Check Names

A translator used to legal wording prepares the English. Then a colleague compares each name, date and amount with the original, one by one.

  4. 4

    Receive The Certified Set

Your certified set comes by email as a signed PDF. Paper copies can be posted to you, your solicitor or another executor.

Costs

Heirship Certificate Translation Prices For UK Estates

Most estates need only a handful of pages. Probate translation services are quoted as one fixed figure, and your solicitor can tell you whether the cost comes out of the estate.

  • Certified

    £24.99 per page

For death certificates, UK banks and solicitors.

  • Notarisation

    £69.99 per document

Added to verify a foreign will, or for a notary abroad.

  • Apostille

    £129.99 per document

For a UK grant used overseas; one fee for notary and FCDO.

What moves the final figure

  • Length Of The WillA one-page will costs far less than a notarial will with schedules and codicils attached.
  • Handwriting And AgeOld, handwritten or faded records need slower, closer reading, so they may cost a little more.
  • Number Of Heirs And AssetsHeirship papers listing many heirs or properties run longer, and each page is counted.
  • Notary, Sworn Statement Or ApostilleCertified sits at the bottom of the scale. A foreign will for the Registry usually adds a notary or sworn statement, and an apostille is only worth paying for when an office abroad asks.

Our Care

Foreign Will Translation For UK Probate, With Every Name Read Twice

A will is someone's final wishes, so we treat each word as if a judge might read it. Our approach to translating death certificates and wills rests on four quiet habits, kept on every order.

  • Legal Wording Kept Precise

Terms such as forced heirship or usufruct have exact meanings. The translator uses the accepted English term and keeps the original word in brackets.

  • Second Check On Every Name

Another linguist reads every name, date of birth and date of death against the original. Small slips can stall a grant, so this step is never skipped.

  • Private Family Matters

Wills show family details many people would rather keep quiet. Beyond you, they are read only by the translator, a second linguist and the coordinator looking after your estate file.

  • Patient, Plain Answers

Not sure which papers the solicitor needs? Ask us on WhatsApp or by email. We explain in plain words and never push you to order more than you need.

Solicitor Waiting On The Translation?

Let us know when your solicitor expects the papers. Before you pay anything, we say plainly whether standard delivery is enough or a same-day slot is needed.

Probate Papers Translation: Registry, Invoice And Handwriting Answers

Grief and paperwork arrive together, so questions are natural. These answers cover what is most often asked about an estate translation. Anything we have missed? Message us and a real person will reply gently.

Ask a different question
Will The Probate Registry Accept Your Translation Of A Foreign Will?
For a foreign will, the Registry usually wants the translation verified, either notarised or backed by the translator's sworn statement, and we arrange either. Death certificates and bank papers normally need certified translation only. The Registry makes the final decision.
Can The Invoice Be Addressed To The Solicitor Or The Estate?
Yes. We can address the quote and invoice to the solicitor or executor, so payment can come from the estate once the account is open. Tell us whose name should appear when you order.
Must Every Page Of A Foreign Will Be Translated For Probate?
The Registry normally expects the full will, including any codicils and the notary's pages. For a bank or pension claim, a single page may be enough. Check with the reader first, then tell us what to include.
The Will Is Handwritten And Some Words Are Unclear. What Happens?
The translator types out everything that can be read and marks any unclear word [illegible] rather than guessing. In a will a guess could change who inherits, so the note lets your solicitor decide whether to ask the foreign notary for help.
Do Executors Abroad Need To Sign Anything For The Translation?
No. Only our translator signs the declaration, and a notary witnesses that signature when a will needs verifying. Executors simply send clear scans and tell us which office will read the set.
What If Relatives Dispute The Will Later?
The certified translation stays the same document whoever reads it. If the matter goes to court and messages or letters are needed too, our court evidence translation for will disputes covers that side.
The Original Will Is Held By A Notary Abroad. Can You Work From Their Copy?
Yes. A certified copy or clear scan from the foreign notary is fine to translate from. If the Registry later asks for the original or an official copy, that request goes to the notary, and we can translate their reply.
